This page lists the default keys HyperSnap defines for screen capture, editing, video recording, and keyboard control while selecting capture regions.

Before You Use This List

  • These are the default assignments. HyperSnap lets users customize many shortcuts and hotkeys.
  • Global capture hotkeys work when Enable Hot Keys is on in HyperSnap.
  • The Print Screen behavior can be changed in the Screen Capture Hot Keys dialog. The default is full-screen capture.
  • Numeric keypad shortcuts below use the keypad keys, for example Ctrl+Numpad 6.

Global Capture Hotkeys

These keys can start captures even when HyperSnap is minimized, provided hotkeys are enabled and no other program has reserved the same key combination.

Alt+Print Screen Capture the active window.
Ctrl+Print Screen Capture the desktop with black and white reversed.
Ctrl+Alt+Print Screen Capture the active window with black and white reversed.
Ctrl+Shift+F Capture the full screen.
Ctrl+Shift+V Capture the virtual desktop, including all monitors.
Ctrl+Shift+W Capture a window or control selected by the user.
Ctrl+Shift+A Capture the active window.
Ctrl+Shift+C Capture the active window without its title bar and frame.
Ctrl+Shift+R Capture a rectangular region.
Ctrl+Shift+G Capture an auto-scroll region.
Ctrl+Shift+S Capture an entire page or document by scrolling it.
Ctrl+Shift+B Capture a button.
Ctrl+Shift+H Start free-hand capture.
Ctrl+Shift+M Start multi-region capture.
Ctrl+Shift+P Pan the last captured region to another screen location.
Ctrl+Shift+F11 Repeat the last capture.
Ctrl+Shift+X Use HyperSnap active-window capture for an active window at a chosen size.
Ctrl+Shift+O Run OCR on a selected region.
Shift+F11 Stop timed auto-capture when timed auto-capture is running.

Main Window Shortcuts

These shortcuts work in the HyperSnap main window when the command is available.

Ctrl+N Create a new image.
Ctrl+O Open an existing file.
Ctrl+S Save the current image with a new name or location.
Ctrl+P Print the current image.
Ctrl+B Copy the current image file path and name.
Alt+X Open the current image folder in File Explorer.
Ctrl+Z Undo the last action.
Ctrl+Y Redo the previously undone action.
Ctrl+X or Shift+Delete Cut the selection and place it on the clipboard.
Ctrl+C or Ctrl+Insert Copy the selection to the clipboard.
Ctrl+V Paste clipboard contents onto the current image.
Alt+Insert Paste clipboard contents as a new image.
Ctrl+Numpad 6 Paste to the right of the selected area.
Ctrl+Numpad 2 Paste below the selected area.
Ctrl+Numpad 4 Paste to the left of the selected area.
Ctrl+Numpad 8 Paste above the selected area.
Ctrl+R Crop the image.
Ctrl+T Auto-trim blank space around the image.
Ctrl+A Select all shapes.
Page Up Open the previous file of the same type in the current folder.
Page Down Open the next file of the same type in the current folder.
Ctrl+Page Up Enter presentation mode.
Ctrl+Page Down View the current picture full screen.
F9 Start or stop MP4 screen recording.
F10 Pause or resume MP4 screen recording.

Keys During Region or Window Selection

These keys are available while HyperSnap is showing the screen overlay used to select a capture region, shape, window, or scrolling area.

Capture selection keys
Key What It Does
F1 Toggle capture help text and zoom display.
Arrow keys Move the selection point by 1 pixel.
Shift+Arrow key Move the selection point by 10 pixels.
Ctrl+Arrow key Move the selection point to the corresponding screen edge.
Enter Finish the capture. In free-hand multi-region capture, it closes the current free-hand shape first.
Space Accept the current point, like pressing the left mouse button.
Esc Cancel or abort the capture.
C Copy the selection size or pixel color code to the clipboard, then cancel.
+ Hide or show the mouse pointer.
- Hide or show the selection size in pixels.
Backspace Remove the last point while drawing a free-hand shape.
Tab or Home Switch the dragged corner. In pan mode, cycle through the available pan handles.
H Cycle the pixel color display mode between decimal, hexadecimal, and hidden.
P Switch to pan mode for the current selection.
R Restart region selection.
S Switch the capture shape forward, for example rectangle, rounded rectangle, or ellipse.
Shift+S Switch the capture shape backward.
X Lock or unlock X-axis movement.
Y Lock or unlock Y-axis movement.
W Change the cursor line width used in the capture overlay.

Editing and Drawing Context Keys

These keys depend on the current tool, selection, or drag operation.

Delete Delete selected shapes, or clear the selected image area when no shape action is active.
Backspace Delete selected shapes, or remove the last point while drawing a polygon or polygon selection.
Esc Cancel the current drawing action while a drawing drag is in progress.
