    Hi,
not all PDF files are encoded correctly or don't provide a valid conversion table from the proprietary encoding they use (created maybe only for that file) into a universal Unicode system. I did experiment a little bit with trying to guess, programmatically, the correct encoding, but it does not work in most cases. You've found a smart solution, congrats!

Also, forgot to add, if you can, email me the PDF file you have, maybe I'll learn something new from this and find some way of guessing correct encoding, at least in some cases... Unless your file is "Łańcuch życia" by Jan Taratajcio - already got that one from other users, and it's not possible for me to guess its correct encoding automatically.

    Hi there,

just fyi - I have the same problem with a german ebook pdf from a well know german publishing company. All special characters are exchanged by some other character combinations, which makes the audio output hard to digest. E.g. "ü" is converted to "ti", "ß" to "B", and more.

    Cheers, Carsten

    Hi Carsten,
Could you email me that file (send as email attachment, don't try posting in the forum). I could examine it and see if there is something I can do for such files in general, or is it again a PDF file using it's own private font and encoding, and not providing a correct conversion table to standard Unicode...
