Text dithering

I used Hypersnap v6.13.02 to edit text in screenshots extensively.  I would take a screenshot, then alter the data using the text tool by overlaying it on top of old text.  On my old PC (window XP pro), the font (tahoma 8pt) appeared crisp and clear at 400% magnification (uniform color throughout).

I now have a new PC running windows 7 with the same version of hypersnap, but everytime I try to add new text it is getting dithered (anti-aliased).
I can't figure out what has changed.  I tried checking all the settings as well as looking into my OS fonts but have come up empty.

Please help!  Thanks.

I think even the old ver. 6.13 of HyperSnap follows the system setting to use use the dithered text or not... Or... wait, maybe it's also a question of using the transparent background for text object - in ver. 6 I could not dither text if the text background was transparent. Try this first.

When inserting the text, I tried what you suggested and used a transparent background.  This produced the desired result (no dithering), but doesn't solve my problem completely.

I'd like to achieve the no dithering effect with a solid background.  It worked this way on my last laptop (Win XP, same version of Hypersnap).

Any other ideas?

It could be that you had text dithering compteltely disabled on the old PC (in the whole system). You could do the same in Windows 7, but I'm not sure if you would like it that way. Try it, and you may change it back anytime if you want. Right-click empty Windows desktop and select "Personalize" from the menu that appears. Next, near bottom-left of the window that appears, click "Display", and then click "Adjust Cleartype Text' in the left margin. Now you can remove the check-mark in "Turn on ClearType" field and see how the text looks without it, click "next" to accept this option and set it globally within the system. Same way to turn it back on.

Thank you.  Changing the OS setting solved my problem exactly.
