Grayscale and defined

I  have noticed Grayscale option and written text: Convert the image to up to 256 shades of gray. How to manage 256 shades and define my own?

    There is no way to to define your own shades of gray here. The program does it automatically.

    I'm sorry, I completely don't understand what you mean by "Why is posted at POP-UP you can define?" I really don't have any intention of changing how this function works though. A 256 gray scale image is composed of single bytes assigned to each pixel, and the byte value, that can contain an integer from 0 to 255, defines this pixel intensity (0 - black, ..., 255 - white)
