Windows 7 licensing during installation

I've seen similar threads, but none identical, and none of them answered the question I have.

I have a site license, currently using ver 7.29.02. All computers are Windows 7 Enterprise. As noted by others, the installer does not automatically read the license key even though the license and an installed .ini file are available in the installation folder.

Question: How can I have the installer apply the license automatically during installation without having to manually navigate to the license key file?

Save your license key as ASCII text file named HprSnap7.hs7lic. Put it into the same folder, from which your run HyperSnap 7 installer (HS7Setup.exe) - this will install both the product and its license when you run HS7Setup.exe.
If you have trouble with your license key, contact us by email.

There is no trouble with the license key. I can upload it manually just fine.

As I mentioned in the original question, the license key (ASCII text confirmed) and an installed .ini file are in the installation folder.

Again, my instructions above refer to the situation when you install HyperSnap 7 on a computer by running HS7Setup.exe. The license file must be named exactly this: HprSnap7.hs7lic, and must be in the same folder, where HS7Setup.exe is, _before_ running HS7Setup.exe.

You may also manually copy HprSnap7.hs7lic to the final destination folder, where HprSnap7.exe was installed. This will also make the program on the computer licensed. If this does not work for some reason, it may be that your HprSnap7.hs7lic file is incorrect.

I don't know how else to say this: the license file is in the installation folder.

It's in the installation folder, named correctly, an ASCII file, prior to running the setup executable.

Manually copying the license file to the destination folder is not practical since the installation runs from the network. That is, the network installation folder contains the setup.exe, license file, .ini file, all appropriately named and in the correct format. Simply clicking on the license file installs the license for the individual user, but not for all users.

My goal: install the program and have the license automatically install for all users.

OK, sorry about this, I tested it now and looks like this feature stopped working. Some debugging will be needed. You could still use some admin script to copy the HprSnap7.hs7lic to the destination folder in the meantime.

I now fixed this, if you still need this feature, please re-download HyperSnap 7 from our server and use the new HS7Setup.exe thus downloaded. Thank you!

Are you using maybe the German version of the latest HyperSnap 7? I just verified all builds, and indeed in the German build this does not work, going to fix it now. In English, French and Russian builds I tested, it correctly copies HprSnap7.hs7lic from the dir from where HS7Setup.exe (or HS7SetFR.exe etc.) is run, to the final destination directory, and the product is licensed on the first try.
Should take no longer than 1 hour from the time of this post for me to upload a fixed German build as well.

German? No. I'm not sure why you'd think that. I used the version that I downloaded at your suggestion. I tried installing it 4 times, and each time the license key DID NOT copy to the installed program folder.

I tested what I assume is the English language version (since the installer used English instructions, and my computer settings are all English) and it did not place the license file in the installed program folder. Just in case you think this might be the problem again, the license key and and installed ini files are in the installation folder, all are named appropriately, etc.

I only asked about the use of German version, because it was the only one with the bug left on the server. It's fixed now too. Right now I tested this again, by downloading HS7Setup.exe from this web site first, then putting both the files (HS7Setup.exe and HprSnap7.hs7lic) into the same folder and running the installer from there. In both cases it did install the license file correctly. Repeated twice, for HS7Setup.exe downloaded from both my servers, to make sure that one of them did not have the old, buggy version. Worked each time. I really don't know what is different at your end...

Maybe contact me by email instead, and attach your license file (HprSnap7.hs7lic) to the email as file attachment, I'll see if there is something wrong with that file...

Nope, still not working. Neither 32-bit nor 64-bit.

I have exhausted all I can do here. Again, please contact me by email and send as attachment your license file with it (HprSnap7.hs7lic), so that I could examine that. The next step, I guess, would be to connect by Skype with screen sharing, to see exactly what and how you do, and try to figure out a solution - if you want to go that far...

You might have missed that I'm installing this from a network drive (see my third entry, above). I'm betting that your successful installation, even though downloaded, is installing from the local drive. That is not practical in my case. The installer needs to be able to run from the network.

I just tested it by installing from a network drive (existing on another computer), first with share name Z:, then removed that share name and also tested executing \\server_name\directory\HS7Setup.exe. In both cases the license was installed correctly. Maybe the directory from which you install has some restricted permissions, e.g. "execute" permission (or HS7Setup.exe would not execute), but no "read" permission?

No, the installation folder has Read and Execute rights. It's not a Unix/Linux server, but it has the Windows equivalent of 755 for all users. UAC on the local machines requires the local user (a local admin in this case) to enter username/password to authorize the installation.

Again, I exhausted all possible explanations, don't see any way I could "fix" it without being able to reproduce the error. Again, see my previous suggestions (contact me by email and send as attachment your license file with it (HprSnap7.hs7lic), so that I could examine that. The next step, I guess, would be to connect by Skype with screen sharing, to see exactly what and how you do, and try to figure out a solution - if you want to go that far...)
