RENAME from within HSnap?

any way to RENAME a file(s) from WITHIN hypersnap?

I capture bunch of misc files, name them with mm-dd-yy-xxx.jpg
then, I go through them, annotate them, and do a SAVE AS a uniquie name -
driver-registration-101,
electric-bill-101,
etc.

ANY WAY to do an actual RENAME (file - RENAME), rather than a SAVE AS, so that way I rename the ORIGINAL, and don't hvae to go back and delete the orignals after doing a FILE sAVE AS???

thanks
NIck

Yes, it's easy to do, with or without HyperSnap. Open the folder where you have these files saved - if you have one of the files already opened inside HyperSnap window, you may select File/Explore function or press Alt+X keys. Then click the icon of the file you want to rename, click again the file name part below that icon - it changes to edit box - type a new name for it.
Of course if you modified the image inside HyperSnap - draw something on it for example, add text etc. - you still need to save that image first to have your changes saved in the file.

    greg,
    thanks for reply.
true, and understood, and that is what I do now to some extent.

BUT, it would be much easier to be able to
    1. scan a bunch of papers
    2. edit the one specific page i am on
    3. do a combined "save/save-as/rename", so that the image gets edited, and then saved as the NEW RENAMED image, and the ORIGINAL name gets deleted.
it would be actually a "save-as edited new name and Delete original" combination.
it could be a NEW button called "save New image and Delete Original" -
    OR, "SNIDO"  !!!
    (any better acronym is appreciated.
This way, it is a one-step operation from within hypersnap, and not going to the original folder, etc, etc, etc.

Hm. That's somewhat non-standard, I have not seen such function in any other software that edits any kind of documents... I would consider adding such function if many more people demanded it.

    thanks for reply.

I know it's not standdard, because the whole world is just used to loading a document, editing it, doing a SAVE AS, then going to directories, deleting the originals, etc, etc.
This would be a novel way of editing some batched names.
again, low on priority list, but just thought I'dpass it on

This is actually the feature I miss the most.

    Ref the following posts: 8815, 9565, 9356

I would really like to see in the Thumbnail context menu:
Rename file -> Renames the current file on disk and updates the thumbnail caption
Delete file -> Deletes the current file and closes the thumbnail

I know I can go to Windows Explorer and do it all from there, but it would save me a lot of time if I could do it from within the application.

The rename feature is available in other software products, e.g. UltraEdit which I use a lot:
    [image]C:\Data\temp\snap\_snap0688.png[/image]
hmm..tried to upload a snap here, but that was not so easy...

Will consider adding a "rename file" and delete file to the thumbnail bar... I guess, the rename could work like this: if the image is saved and has a file associated with it, if you click the image name in the thumbnail bar - it currently allows you to edit the image name. This could also change at the same time the file name. The Delete could be just one more option on the right click menu...

... wich had been requested for and promised for several years (I could search some proves at this forum) - but still is not implemented even in the new 8.th version, although thumbnails functionality has been essentially re-arranged.

    Folks, please,
I know, this has been requested on quite a few occasions in the past, but please answer this:
Are you aware of ANY application capable of doing this?
We are talking about at least two separate tasks working as one, flawlessly, probably without any "do you really..."-message boxes and yet secure.
I don't know, if this is at all possible.
... but Greg definitely knows more about HS than anybody else. If he has not implemented it yet, it is more than a few lines of code.
Check the changelog. So many requests done within a few days. If THIS ONE takes SO long, there's more to it.

Of doing "this" - what? Deleting a file, which is opened in the app's current window? Hundreds of programs can do it without any problems. Not to go to far, I'd name some graphic files viewers as, say, IrfanView, XnView, Imagine etc etc. I'd assume (although have not checked it specially to tell for sure) that the most of other screencapture software have such capability.

This option is so natural for sreencapture app, is'nt it? Imagine, you have just made a series of screenshots to choose from them the only one the best which you actually need or / and use them as a raw stuff for a collage etc. Now need to delete unnecessary files, right?  But when working in Hypersnap you have to interrupt you work and to switch to Windows Explorer or some other file manager to do this very simple thing. Do you really think it to be a convenient way to work?

So I think it is not a technical issue in Windows API or some any other rational reason, but rather some kind of (subconscious?) Greg's subjective antipathy against adding this option.

Actually, rename the thumbnail (click on selected thumb's name, it changes into an edit box, type a different name) already renames the file on the disk, if that image was opened or saved from/to a file. I just now added "Close and delete files..." to the right-click menu of the thumbnails bar. Will be available in 8.02.

Thank you very much! This little improvement is a really great step in usability!
