drawing mode toggle and .dhs file type

Is it possible to save a drawing with multiple shapes - such as a captured image with a frame and caption - in the .dhs format, then reload it later with drawing mode toggle in 'directly on image' mode so that I can continue adding and modifying shapes?

Actually the "draw directly on image" is by default turned off in HyperSnap, so that any drawing creates new shapes etc. Opening any particular type of a file has no effect on this setting, opening each new file toggles it back to drawing or editing shapes.

Thanks for the reply.   If it is not possible to create a drawing consisting of multiple objects, save it, and reload in the same state at a later time, is it possible to create drawing with "draw directly on image" toggled off, and merge the elements into a single drawing before saving?   I may not be using the correct terms - what I'm trying to do is create 'projects' that I can save before they are completed and return to at a later time.   Maybe 'imprint' will do this?   I haven't been able to figure out how it works but will give it another try.   Maybe some patient soul will create a tutorial on this subject.

The DHS format saves the same format and restores all the shapes for editing next time. When you want to save a flat image, without separate shapes, save a standard image file (e.g. PNG or JPEG). Or before saving a DHS file, press Ctrl+A to select all shapes, then press the "Imprint" button on the "Edit" ribbon tab of HyperSnap.

I spent some time experimenting following your suggestion and now it makes sense.   Thank you.

I would just add the following:  To save a multi-shape image in-progress, save as DHS.   To return to the project, reload the DHS.   Continue making changes and saving/reloading DHS as needed.   When complete, select all shapes, imprint, and save as .jpg or other standard file type.   (This last step can be performed at any time without affecting the DHS file which allows you to check your work - just don't save the DHS after imprinting.)

It also helps to understand how Drawing Mode works with separate objects.  One can get the hang of it after a bit of experimentation.

Hypersnap has come a long way over the years - kudos to the developer(s) !

Thank you, good instructions. One remark, before saving an image file, like JPEG or PNG or other, it's not necessary to do imprint manually, it will be done automatically before saving the image file.
