Add from Google Drive doesn't save if screen turns off.

After clicking "Add from Google Drive" the progress bar shows up but if the screen turns off before it is finished the articles are lost. Even if it doesn't finish clicking "Add from Google Drive" again should refetch the articles.

I double checked, and the app is actually trying to continue download after you navigate away from it, or turn off the screen. However what I forgot to do was to set a "wake lock", to tell Android system to keep the app running, do not stop it when it's in the background. I added wake locks now, the change will be in version 22.4.10 or any newer. Even now though, you could try to press e.g. the Home button while a long sync works, and then pull down notifications - you'll see the text flashing in the @Voice notification telling that it downloads subsequent articles, and in the end they do get added to the list. Unless the system stops the app...

It may still happen on many devices, where the manufacturers modify Android system to kill or put to sleep apps that run in the background or with the screen off, to "save battery". The most often complaint and symptom of this is when you try to listen to a long text with screen off - many devices will then kill @Voice process or stop it, and speech stops. The same problem could occur here with a sync running in the background or with the screen off. If you or anyone else runs into this problem, please visit https://dontkillmyapp.com web site, press there on the device type you have, read and implement the settings recommended there.

Thank you! Would it work to make it load one at a time and add it to the list then delete it from google drive instead of all at once. That way if it fails clicking Add from Google Drive will just pick back up where it left off. Or would that make it a lot slower?

Currently it will work as before, just should work better when you turn off the screen (or it turns off by itself). To delete each copied file, I'd have to modify the app code again.

It still doesn't work when the screen turns off. I have @voice aloud reader set to "Not Optimized" in the battery optimization settings so it shouldn't kill it when the screen turns off, but it still won't keep downloading or let me start the download again.

Does the system kill @Voice app when this happens? You could tell e.g. when you unlock the screen, the @Voice notification disappeared. It could be also that the system slows down the processor so much, that the app is practically not working, not having enough time to save incoming packets. Or maybe the WiFi radio is turned off to "save battery". On which device and which Android system version does this happen? How big and how any files do you download when this happens?

Also please visit https://hyperionics.com/atVoice/stops.html, press on the device type that you have, then read and implement the suggested settings from the next page that appears (it will be on dontkillmyapp.com site, created and maintained by other Android developers).

The app is still open and the notification is still there when I turn the screen back on. Just the progress window is gone. There were 7 articles downloading the last time it happened.

Please try version 22.6.7 (or any newer) - I added to the download functions also a WiFi lock (asking the system to please don't turn off the WiFi radio... but I can only ask, not demand, and the system does what it wants anyway). Would be good to know if this helps.

Just tested it out and it seems to have worked. Synced 3 articles and turned my screen off after the first one was done for a few seconds and when I turned on my screen on the articles were in the list! Thanks for your work on this.
