Simple question about cutting out a portion of an image

I do not understand how to cut out a portion of an image.  I just want to blank out a portion of an article that does not have to do with the remaining two columns of a newspaper article.  Nothing I have tried allows me to do this.  I know it must be simple, but even reading the manual was no help.
Clear instructions would be helpful and greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Jim

You could use Crop function on the Image ribbon tab of HyperSnap 8 (or Ctr+R keyboard shortcut) to cut off unwanted pieces, if the remaining 2 columns fit into a rectangular shape. Or you could cover the unwanted part with a filled white rectangle (or any color filled rectangle) to simply mask it.
