I'm sorry, I completely don't understand what you mean by "Why is posted at POP-UP you can define?" I really don't have any intention of changing how this function works though. A 256 gray scale image is composed of single bytes assigned to each pixel, and the byte value, that can contain an integer from 0 to 255, defines this pixel intensity (0 - black, ..., 255 - white)
