Unable to capture text from firefox.

Hello, I am unable to capture text from firefox. From a quick search that I made here, I have the firefox addon hypersnap helper 1.9 and I have disabled the option "Use hardware acceleration when available". Also I have tried install/uninstall, remove firefox addon and reinstall it. With Internet explorer though textsnap works

    Hello condition,
try disabling the third textsnap option "tab delimited". ... And after that the second. Test again.
    Sometimes this helps.
Apart from that, you pulled all possible strings. TextSnap and FireFox simply don't play along anymore.

Maybe there is a particular page that does not work for text capture? I'm trying this right now with FireFox 12, Windows 7 x64 and the latest HyperSnap 7, TextSnap still works fine from regular pages. It may not capture text from Flash or Java applets though.

No, I am testing it since I bought new PC, over a month. It doesn't even capture from the window I am typing now. Do you have clear type enabled?

Apart from firefox everything is working great, especially version 7 is really great

Yes, I have ClearType enabled, and Aero theme too (translucent title bars etc.) Right now I also tried with Aero disabled, still got the TextSnap capture fine. Here is the info from my Copy of Firefox About box, as TextSnap captures even that (the layout is not quite the same, but that's because this edit box does not support all of RTF formatting. BTW, are you also on "release channel" of FF, or on beta?

I really don't know what could be different. Just to be sure, do you have HyperSnap plugin for Firefox enabled? If you display "Add-ons Manager" it should be listed like this:

    HyperSnap Helper 1.9

HyperSnap screen capture helper  More                               Disable     Remove

"Disable" and "Remove" are buttons. If you disabled it, the first button would say "Enable" instead. I really don't know what else could be wrong.

Is HyperSnap Helper something new in version 7?  Is it for Firefox only, or Thunderbird as well?

I have this same problem in both Firefox and Thunderbird after recent updates on the ESR channel.  My company's still using HyperSnap 6.  I'm wondering if I need to push them to buy a new licence for v7.

Do you have a trial version?  It would be good if I could confirm that it works before trying to get my company to buy the upgrade.

You can download HyperSnap 7 at any time from this web site and use as a trial version. It does capture text from Firefox web browser, provided that you disable the "Use hardware acceleration when available" option under Tools/Options menu of FF, "Advanced" tab. You also need to install HyperSnap 7 Firefox add-on for that. The program prompts you to install it when you first try to capture something from FF, or you could use "FF Add on" button on the Setup tab of HyperSnap 7 ribbon.

    Well guess what...

I am the original poster and the previous week I did a windows format and now I can capture any text from any firefox page, like old times. I am happy that things working again. I didn't even install firefox helper utility. Of course I haven't changed anything in my hardware. I am thinking what could made the difference but I can't find anything. Maybe be the drivers of my card.

Now it works for "condition" user, does not work at all for me. I'm sorry, but the "TextSnap" feature of HyperSnap is impossible to maintain any longer and will have to be either completely removed, or left behind as "unsupported" feature - use it where it still works, and forget it where it won't work.

Greg-support I am sorry it went out wrong.
Just out of curiosity, did you paste the rich text in your below post of May 8th, or you edited the italics here in the forum?. I tried in my previous post it to paste like this but I couldn't make it.

    Hi "Condition",
it's nothing that you did wrong, the problem is on my side with the code that won't work any more (the whole TextSnap function), and I have to make a difficult decision of taking it out or something. Sorry that I'm so unclear in my writing.
As for using italics in your post, its as simple as clicking the button at the top of the window into which you type a message. Bold text and other effects like different fonts etc. are also possible.

Please, don't choose removing TextSnap completely. If you can not give a warranty for it, let us use it "as is", for a user own risk. Till last versions of HS it TextSnap module worked fine in the most situations and it was IMHO one of the best screen text capturing software around the market, although AFAIK HyperSnap was not ever positioned as text capture utility.

BTW I've noticed, that sometimes when simple textsnap for a selected region does not work, the function "Text from an Object under Cursor" (default hotkey Ctrl+U) does still work. Might it give you some useful idea?

Thank you, I will keep this function, maybe add some text that it is not supported. The operating systems and software technology evolve in such a way, that for both security reasons, and for software greater performance, it is not possible for outside processes (like HyperSnap) to connect and observe what they are drawing or writing on the screen. You can still see the final output on the screen, of course, but interpretting this correctly requires much more intelligence. OCR programs do it pretty well, but not with 100% accuracy.
