Occassional screenshot failure

Every once in a while I will have this problem where I use the key-combo to select a region and don't get the crosshairs that I should get unless I click on the tray icon at which point the cross hairs show up but only appear when they're over the taskbar. If I try that key combo again nothing happens and I can't select anything with my mouse until I take a screenshot of some part of the taskbar. I created a post about this problem a few months ago but I didn't have any way to demonstrate. Here's a screen capture of it happen: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1.7365/hypersnap_issue.wmv When it starts I've already pressed my key combo for 'select region' and you can see the crosshairs don't appear until my mouse is over the taskbar. I then have to take a shot of the taskbar, and then when I press the key combo again it actually works, but only because it doesn't happen if camstudio-recorder is running when I press the key-combo. Please provide this additional data: Exact HyperSnap version in use (from Help/About menu): _5.11.02_____ (I've tried the latest demo version and get this problem there too.) Windows version in use: _Windows 7_____

Hello BSchilke, sounds like you found the culprit already. If the same error occurs when using a very (VERY!) old HyperSnap version AND the newest version, it is quite clear that another program is interfering with HyperSnap. Please try the following: Deactivate and unload (not uninstall) Cam Studio from the tasks. See if it happens again. Or rename the Ctrl-Shift-R key for region to something else. Maybe the shortcut is used in another program, too. But to be honest, my money is on Cam Studio. Thomas Lesser Admin

It shows what a great tool hypersnap is that I am still using 5.0! So this was happening before I ever installed camstudio--I installed camstudio to document this issue actually. And oddly enough if camstudio is running when I press the key-combo it's no longer an issue. If anything I should keep camstudio open and I won't ever have the issue, but that doesn't seem practical.

Hello BSchilk, ok, now I run out of ideas. You'll have to wait, until the big admin (Greg) comes up with an idea. In the meantime, I recommend one last thing: Save your ini-file with your personal settings and your license file. You can make a backup of it. See the help menu in HS. Then completely uninstall HS 5, delete the registry key hyperionics.com and its subkeys and do a fresh install. I hope you still have a setup file saved somewhere. Apart from that your license should work up to v6.13.02. A lot of things changed including the intro of textsnap and some better autoscrolling. You can always go back to an older version. But be aware: WE probably don't have any old setup files anymore. Hope it works Thomas Lesser Admin

I also have no better ideas than upgrade to the latest version of HyperSnap (or at least to version 6.13, if you don't want to buy an upgrade). I would also check to see if there is an updated graphics card driver for your system on the web site of your computer manufacturer - this could help as well. I did not see this bug for a very long time with the newer versions of HyperSnap... Greg
