Hypercam v2.x And compression quality

Hi, since im working still on a slow computer (amd64 x2 4200+) I'm having problems recording at a somewhat "big" resolution. My pc can barely take 1280x720 (hd 720) on 16 bit colorsat 20 fps capture. I've tried things like lowering the fps capture and putting windows desktop on 16 bits color (that helpt loads) But I'm wondering what inpact, or what does ' Frame compression quality" do?. Like If i put it on 100% quality, does that means Hypercam is NOT compresing at real time. So i have more cpu recourses left? Or do I need to put "frame compression quality" on 0 % so its a pure raw file and no realtime compressing? My goal is to gain more CPU power/resourses. And I think it has to do with this compression thingy Any help would be awsome. THanks Please provide this additional data: Exact HyperCam version in use (on the License tab): ______ Windows version in use: ______

The "frame compression quality" is really a setting for the video codec (compressor) you select. Some compressors will use this settings, some will ignore it. It has no direct impact on CPU usage, rather low quality setting directs the codec to make smaller files, at the cost of worse quality. Maybe, if you have a fast and big hard disk, you could record uncompressed frames instead - huge files, but excellent quality - and later compress them with some other software, e.g. a video editor. Thanks greg. But is then 100 or 0 % a none compressed capture? Still a bit confused about that:)

Again, it depends what the compressor will do with values 0% or 100%. Although 100% means best quality, 0% would probably mean worst possible with the given compressor. If you want to record uncompressed movies, select "Full frames uncompressed" instead in HyperCam window, "AVI File" tab. Then the quality % does not apply and is ignored. Greg

Hi Admin, I'm trying to create a video with the Uncompressed setting. However, the file is corrupted each time. I've been lucky and got a file that I was able to drag into Adobe, but it freezes the whole program when I try to edit. The uncompressed files do not play in any media player other than VLC, and when VLC opens the files it gives an error stating that no index file has been found, and attempts to create a temporary index file. I can get it to play in VLC but nothing else. It causes Adobe Premiere to Crash when I import. I'm running Windows 7 64-bit OS with an i7-2600CPU@3.4GHz and 10GB of RAM. I also have an AMD Radeon HD 6570. I've seen other videos online that show people using different means of compression, but I only have the option to do uncompressed, intel IYUV & Windows Video Codecs, even though I've downloaded the Divx, which is recommended by a lot of people. My project is due tomorrow. Help? Thanks Brandon

Hello Brandon, please check, if the following information applies to you: http://hyperionics.com/forum2/tm.aspx?m=9523 And please create short testfiles (5-25 seconds) and see, if they all are corrupt. Maybe your files are too big. If nothing helps, give HyperCam 3 a try. If it doesn't create a watermark, you may be able to finish your project at least. And HC 3 is equipped with a built in editor and many improvements. http://www.solveigmm.com/en/products/hypercam/ Good luck Thomas Lesser Admin
