Uninstall/reinstall @Voice app without losing saved articles, reading lists etc.
If @Voice app must be uninstalled and re-installed again for some reason, this would delete all the reading lists and files saved under the main app default folder. Here is what you could do to avoid such deletion - important! it must be done BEFORE uninstalling @Voice:
Press the Settings button (gear icon) on top – or “Settings” on the menu (3 vertical dots at top right), if gear icon is not visible. Then press “@Voice folder location”. A simple file and folder browser screen appears. The line on top may say something like:
What exactly it says, depends on the device, but it always ends with /Android/data/com.hyperionics.avar/files
. On this list, just under the Location header, press the “../ (partent directory)” line 4 times, until it gets out of “Android” directory and the line on top only shows the beginning of the above lines without “/Android/…” part.
Now press the menu button (3 vertical dots on top-right), and press Create folder
there. Enter some name for the new folder, e.g. “atVoice” or whatever you want, rather short and simple though, without spaces, and press “Create” button. The new folder will appear on the list afterwards, press that folder, then press “Select” button at the bottom. @Voice will say “Selected folder is empty. Would you like to copy all contents from the old folder here, and delete the old folder to free space?” – press OK or Yes, whatever button your system shows. After it finishes copying files, exit @Voice app (menu – Exit), and you may uninstall it, then install back from Google Play. After installation – repeat the above procedure to select your new folder, just don’t press “Create” button, simply when you get out of Android folder, select the one you created. Your files will be there, so simply press “Select” button at the bottom.
Above will preserve all your saved articles and reading lists, bookmarks, speech edits. The progress on reading articles and ebooks will be lost though, and if you changed some settings in @Voice, such as certain default behaviors, colors etc., they need to be re-done.
