Transparent background on .ico files not working

Transparent background will not save for .ico files.  I can get the background to be transparent in hypersnap.  And i check the "transparent" checkbox when doing a save. But when I close hypersnap, then open the same file the transparency is gone.

Yes, it does not work for ICO files, sorry. To save an image with transparent color, please use PNG or GIF file format. Transparency in ICO files is done differently, not by making one color transparent, but rather by embedding a second 1 bit per pixel image which tells which pixels are to be opaque or transparent. I never implemented this fully.

Windows does not allow PNG or GIF for Icon files.  Would you be willing to consider this as a feature request?  If not would you know what software does create transparent windows icon files?
