Font issue with Add Text tool

Hi, Greg...I've been using HyperSnap for years (you and I have communicated in the past and you've always been super-helpful), and I've always been able to use the Add Text tool to add text to screenshots. Suddenly, in both Version 7.28.05 (on a Virtual box machine and I haven't updated Hypersnap on that box yet) and in Version 7.29.00 (on a physical PC and I just updated HyperSnap), the Add Text tool font size is way off. 14 point is now miniscule and the only way I can actually see the text is by selecting a font size like 36 point. Suggestions on how to handle this problem? Is there a setting someplace that has "come undone"? The only "changes" to either computer have been "Windows Update" important updates.

Thanks for your help,

Elaine

Hello Elaine,

I just tested adding a text to a screenshot and everything looks ok. Font size 14 was pre-set, so I did not change anything, just typed the text. It looked proportionally right to the screenshot and looked right in the print preview.

I have only one idea what might cause the behavior on your machines. Please check, what zoom is set on the far right side of the menu bar of Hypersnap. I have no idea what it SHOULD look like, but just fiddle around with auto-fit, auto, 100% and some variations. It may have to do with it.

If not, please come back here and give some information on the zoom settings you use and your experiences, and maybe even a screenshot we can look at.

Good luck
Thomas

If zoom is set to "Auto", it's only logical - if you capture or open a very big image, it is scaled smaller to fit inside the available HyperSnap 7 window. Everything, including the fonts of text boxes drawn on that image, is scaled smaller proportionally... Switch the zoom to 100% to see the fonts in their natural size. The sample image you've sent us is really big, it's 3264 x 2448 pixels.

Also, to have the size change actually affect the text already entered in a text box, that text must be selected. Otherwise, the change is only remembered for the current cursor position, and the new text you would enter there afterwards.

More on the Add Text tool...I've now got the text size thing all worked out, but I'm having trouble with a setting in the Edit Text dialog box. On the Frame tab, I check "Resize to Contain Text" and it stays checked for 2 or 3 uses--and then becomes unchecked again. Is there a way that I can make it stay checked permanently?

Thanks!!

Indeed, it seems that this setting is turned off automatically, after 2 usages or so. Will have to look into the code and figure out what does it and how to prevent this. Not much that could be done without modifying the code and re-building the program...
