I discovered that "save as" seemed to fix the problem, but by this time you'd already fixed it :)
Re:Changing resolution in PNG output doesn't work (Support)

OK, I think I know what happens. The "change resolution" function actually does not mark the image as "modified" (there is no * next to its name in the title bar for example), and then clicking the File/Save function does nothing, if the file from which this image was loaded is still in place. I made it that way (not saving when not modified) to avoid unnecessary quality degradation for files with lossy compression like JPEG. If you delete the original file and save, or use File/Save As..., all works as expected. For now I'll modify the "resolution" function to mark image as "modified" to resolve this issue. Thank you for your patience and persistence in making me to understand and fix the issue!

Greg
Re:Changing resolution in PNG output doesn't work (NickM)

Ok, here it is again, with a video to show what I did. This time, the image starts out as 72dpi and I'm trying to save the image as 96 dpi. Saving the image doesn't appear to make the DPI setting stick.
The video is here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1348289/dpitest.mp4

Re:Changing resolution in PNG output doesn't work (Support)

  Hi Nick,
the file that I downloaded from your post was named as (something).png, but it was actually a JPEG file. Strange. It did show 96 dpi resolution, but when I set 72 dpi, then saved as test.png (and PNG format), then closed it and opened again, it correctly shows 72 dpi. I don't understand what exactly you did, but all seems to be working correctly here...

Greg
Changing resolution in PNG output doesn't work (NickM)

    See the attached file.

Drag and drop into HS.
Image > Resolution says the horizontal and vertical DPI are 96.01.
Change these to 72, ensure "apply to current image" is ticked.
Save the file to disk, as format PNG
Close the file.
Drag and drop the file back into HS.
Image > Resolution says it's 96.01 again.
The resolution does not "stick".

Please provide this additional data:
Exact HyperSnap version in use (from Help/About menu):7.09
Windows version in use: Win 7 x64
