When I rewind using my wired headphones (3 clicks), the app repeats the first sentence

When I rewind using my wired headphones (3 clicks), the app jumps back by 3 sentences (that's how I have set it), but it repeats the first sentence twice.

For example, Let us say I am at sentence#10 in the article (or chapter of the book).
I click the headphones button 3 times.
The app jumps to sentence#7, and repeats it twice. [BUG]
Then it proceeds through sentence #8,9,10.....

I cannot reproduce this with another headset here, maybe it's related to using triple click for this action on your particular headset. It may be sending some additional command to the app, in addition to "back" command, and I have no way of debugging this without having this particular model in house for testing and debugging. It does not seem like a fatal bug.

I repeated the experiment with several headsets of different makes+models, and found that the bug does exist, but in a particular condition only: The device must be locked for this to happen.
    • If the device is unlocked, this does not happen.
    • Even if @Voice screen is not in the foreground, the problem does not occur.
All headsets behave identically. So this is not a headset-related issue.

I am using @Voice during my walk, I  cannot keep the device unlocked, because any accidental touch on the touchscreen gives random commands to the various apps. Therefore I have to lock my device and keep the phone in the pocket of my shorts. This is how I discovered the issue.

What kind of headsets are you using and testing? I don't have any that would permit me configure multiple clicks as actions, so please also explain how you do this. I simply use a media headset with separate play/pause and Next, Previous buttons, plus separate volume buttons. The problem does not exist with this type of headset, no matter if the screen is on or locked and off. The problem must be related to using a triple click. The first two clicks the app probably interprets as pause speech, resume speech and only the 3rd click causes the headset to send the "previous" or "back" button press event. This confuses the app. I don't know if I'll be able to find a similar headset, and even if I do, if I'll find a good solution to the problem. Again, it does not seem like a fatal error, just a minor inconvinience, which can easily be avoided by using a headset with separate media control buttons.

I use headsets with microphone (as opposed to a "music only" headset that does not have a mic).
It has a single button, which is used for various purposes, depending on the target app.
My primary headset is HZ-ZSN PRO, and I have multiple other sets also.
    • For a dialer app, it can accept an incoming call (single click) and terminate an active call (single click).
    • For a music player app, it can play/pause with a single click.
It can skip to the next song with a double click, and skip to the previous song with a triple-click.
    • For @Voice also, it follows this same pattern: Skip to the next sentence with a double click and skip to the nth previous sentence with a triple-click (where n is configurable)

As far as I know, triple click on a headset is not a native Android action. You are probably using some app that handles clicks, re-interprets them and sends modified event notifications to other apps. I could test this, if I knew which app you are using for handling and modifying click events.

Also, I have a media headset with microphone (it handles phone calls very well) and has media buttons for controlling playback without need for 3rd party applications and tricks to convert triple clicks into something else...

I have not installed any click-adopted/converter app.

But all the standard music players like Shuttle and VLC work identically on my phone (ASUS ZenFone 5Z). They all respond to double/triple clicks.

I doubt if any of my headsets have any electronics. They seem to have a simple NO/NC contact that passes through the coax connector to the phone.

I connected a simple Samsung headset with a wire and single button to my phone and tested double and triple clicks. On a DOUBLE click @Voice makes the jump back, by 3 sentences as I set it last time, when testing with Bluetooth. What happens with your headset when you use a double-click?

With a double-click, it jumps forward. In my audio players also, a double-click skips to the next track.

With a triple-click, it skips back by x sentences (as per setting).
In audio players too, it skips to the previous track.

But there is a check box in the Settings > Speech settings > Headset tab.
This checkbox is labeled "Reverse back and Next buttons".
It allows me to swap the functionality of the double- and triple-click actions.

I tried this out, and it works.
