Questions about Filled Rectangle and Select Rectangle

I recently upgraded HyperSnap from 6.13.02 to 8.16.06.

I don't understand how to use the Filled Rectangle tool in verison 8. I had no problem with it in version 6.

1. There doesn't seem to be a way to configure the filled rectangle with no border lines. If I want to draw a rectangle that matches the color of a particular area, I select the eye dropper and click on the point with the color I want to match. In version 6, that was enough. I could then draw a rectangle with the chosen color. In version 8, the rectangle will have a border with the background color, until I use the eye dropper again to set that background color to the foreground color.

Is there any way to use the Filled Rectangle with no border? If not, why not? I never ever want a border.

2. When I draw the filled rectangle, I can extend the rectangle beyond the image margin. In version 6, the rectangle would be limited to the image margin. After all, it makes no sense for an edit of this nature to change the margin. I've not found any way to hide the overshoot other than by saving the image, closing it and then reopening it.

Is there any way to avoid having the filled rectangle overshoot the image margin? Once the overshoot is visible, is there any way to hide it without closing and reopening the image?

3. I'm having a problem with the Select | Rectangular selection tool. If I select an area and then change my mind, how do I deselect the area? Is the only way to click on View | Hide selected shapes?

Is there an easier way to deselect a selection, such as via some keyboard shortcut?

Any help will be appreciated. Right now, I'm tempted to reinstall version 6, which served me well for nearly a decade.

In version 8 the rectangle is drawn with separate frame color and fill color. To achieve the same effect as in old versions, set the line style to continuous line, the thinnest possible. Set the background color and fill color to be the same, e.g. red. See screen capture below how I set all of this and drew the rectangle:

Thanks for your reply, which simply restates what I'd already reported in my original message. Unfortunately, version 8 does not provide a “no border” option for the Filled Rectangle. Curiously, version 6 does not allow any border at all for a filled rectangle. I've used a filled rectangle in version 6 many hundreds of times. I have never ever needed a border.

Could you please provide responses for items 2 and 3 in my original message?

    TIA.

    2. You may just as well select the rectangle (or other objects drawn by holding Ctrl key and clicking them, or pressing Ctrl+A to select all objects), then press "Imprint" button on the Edit ribbon tab. All the separate object will be drawn on the underlying image, clipped to that image of course, and can no longer be edited separately (e.g. moved, resized, change their colors etc.)

    3. A simple click on the image turns off the selection.

Your response to item 2 is helpful, but indicates that you are not willing to admit that there's a problem in the code that allows the filled rectangle to extend beyond the image boundary. There is no legitimate reason for this to occur.

Your response to item 3 was not my experience. Clicking elsewhere on the image initiated a new selection. I never found a way to deselect other than View | Hide selected shapes. (In version 6, after a selection is made, one only needs to right-click anywhere in the HyperSnap window to deselect.)

Thanks again for your responses, which confirmed I was using the program as it was designed.

I obtained a refund for version 8, which I have uninstalled. I have returned to version 6, which meets my needs.

There is a lot of sense to let the objects extend beyond the canvas image or be totally beyond them, useful when working actively on the image, editing things etc. I use this quite often, and so do other users.

Selection - if you move even slightly the cursor when clicking to turn off rectangle selection, the program thinks you're making a new selection. Hold mouse still. Or first right-click to switch from "select area" mode (cross cursor) to regular arrow cursor.
