app doesn't stop reading when phone call comes in

Don't know what and why. I did not change any code there. Maybe look under Settings - Speech settings, if you have an option to "Let music play in the background" turned on, turn it off. Below in the "Choose the audio stream..." set it back to "Music (default)", if anything else was selected.
Also try to reboot your phone, as it may have got into some corrupt state. Better yet, find on the Internet the procedure to "Clear cache partition" on your device and execute it. This fixes a lot of problems.
