Problem - Latest @Voice stops mid-word about 4-6 minutes in all PDFs

Dear all,

I apologize in advance if this is not the right place to ask a question/report a bug. The last versions of the paid @Voice have been exhibiting a strange behavior of stopping mid-word in every 30-60 pages long PDFs after about 4-6 minutes in. I checked the sleep timer and it's off. Phone is Note 4, Android 5.1.1. Previous versions say 6 months ago on the same phone and the same Android version did not have that behavior.

Thank you,

Astrae

Could be some special characters in your PDFs that trip a TTS voice - send me by email one or more of your PDFs, or email links to download them, tell me the approximate place where they stop.

Another issue could be usage of a TTS voice that needs Internet connection to generate voice, and the connection goes down periodically or gets too slow. Expand the bottom control panel in @Voice, press "Change voice or language" and when the voice chooser appears, make sure the "Show voices that need internet connection" option is checked OFF, then select a voice. Also make sure, if using Google TTS, that you have all the voice data needed already downloaded (under Android system settings - Language & Intput - Text-to-speech output - gear icon next to Google TTS.)

    Thank you for the reply!
What is your email? I tried 6 different pdfs, they are all academic articles and those worked ok before. I can send you one of those. I haven't timed when it turns off but it seems less than 10 mins. Probably 2-3 pages in the pdf. When it stops the play button looks like pause as if it were still playing, so what i do is press pause then play again and it starts playing again. No sleep timers at all.

I use Ivona GBR downloaded and installed. It seems no network connection is needed.

It's probably an issue with Ivona TTS voice, not @Voice... Ivona is no longer supported on Android and withdrawn from Google Play - Amazon bought this company and removed it. Officially IVONA TTS beta test versions were only supported for Android 4.x and lower versions. When Android 5 came out, I could not find it in Google Play and asked the producer about it - they said they had no interest in supporting newer versions of Android with Ivona voices. probably the negotiations for Amazon purchase were well advanced then. I also have IVONA packages saved and use them even on Android 6 or 7, but occasionally have similar issues with them to what you describe.

Please try a different voice, non-IVONA and tell me if you have the same issue with it. For my email, click the "Contact" link on this web site, or look at the bottom of @Voice description on Google Play. Or at @Voice app "About" screen...

It seems clearing cache for both Ivona TTS HQ and Ivona Voice Amy did the trick. It's still talking after 40 minutes. I'm happy it worked out, especially given that Ivona is still the best voice out there.

Another thing that helps is to clear the entire cache partition of the device, particularly after a major system update. Don't know why, but it seems to fix many strange problems a device develops over the time. Our Nexus 5X and 6P phones were using the battery very quickly after an upgrade to Android 7. Clearing cache partition fixed this.

Clearing cache partition is usually a cumbersome process, different for each phone or tablet. It involves rebooting into device's recovery mode and running the "clear cache partition" from there. If interested, lookup the instructions for your device on the Web.
