stick "Select rectangular area" mode and use it as a default mode instead of "View only"

 
The mode "Select rectangular area" does not stick in the new version 7.xx (in contradiction to HS 6.xx). Say I apply the tool "Select rectangular area" to select certain area. Than I handle this selected area in some way, say copy it to the clipboard, delete, fill with color etc. Now I move on the next area to be handled. But as the app in meanwhile has entered again "View only" mode,
the first thing I have to start with is to select the mode "Select rectangular area" again, and than again, and again - every time... Is there any reasonable need for such behavior?

Besides it would be great to give user an option to choose the default mode when creating every new window (tab) (incuding opening existing files) - whether it will be "Shape Edit" or "Image edit" mode and whether "Select rectangular area" or "View and shape selection mode".

Exact HyperSnap version in use (from Help/About menu): 7.03.01
Windows version in use: XP SP-2

    I will consider this, if more users ask for such feature. I think I took care of other problems you reported in ver. 7.04 just released.

    Hello Greg!
    We (I mean you and me) almost got our litte anniversary. Congratulations! That's about 5 years since you have promised to consider my featurerequest to add an option, which allows a user to assign the "Select rectangular area" mode as the "default mode" instead of the "View mode".
     
    How about making a small gift for the party?

    OK, I now released version 8.12 of HyperSnap, where I implemented something a little bit different, but inspired by your idea. Hope you'll like it. Simply, when you are in the default "View and shape selection mode", you may just press the left mouse button and start dragging the mouse. It will then automatically switch to the area selection mode, and stay in that mode until you right-click, when it returns to the default shape selection again. It's like a "dual selection" mode now.
