User of Version 6 confused with Version 8

A-The situation - the Graphic
I have a graphic inside HyperSnap 8 where I have 1 big graphic (approx 8 x 11) that I add 6 other smaller graphics to.

B-What I don't understand - working with the above graphic.  (None of this was a problem in version 6)
1) If I select a rectangle inside the above graphic and hit the delete key on my keyboard the rectangle does not go away.
       * Select - Click Cut - it does not go away.
       * Select - Move the mouse, the rectangle creates a copy that is moved with the mouse, but the original stays in place.

2) If I Crop the graphic, lots of the 6 small graphics I add that are outside of the cropped area stay.

3) If I save the Graphic talked about in A-  above  - When I open it
       * Still can't select and delete
       * When I Crop the graphic, things work better but if I crop the middle of some graphic I added, the entire added graphic shows.

What Works for me.
1) If I copy one graphic and don't add anything to it, I then can crop it.
       * However even in this situation I still can't select and delete a part of the inside of the above graphic.

Hypersnap is one of the greatest programs, I just need to move forward and learn version 8.

Any help to is greatly appreciated.

    Hello Larry,

yes, you have to learn a lot about the many improvements of version 8. Please read the manual.
One of the great new things is working with elements and layered objects.
While in v6 you could only edit one object once, having no chance to re-edit without simply undoing all steps, you can copy and insert many objects onto the canvas (the original picture). They float above it and are not affected by operations you do with the canvas. You can manage one or more objects individually and repeatedly without changing the canvas.
Concerning your selections, please try the following:
In EDIT-ribbon select the Select-icon, right to the UNDO-icon. Draw a rectangle on the canvas. Press DEL. The part of the picture disappears and - depending on your settings - the background is visible. Often looks like a checkerboard.
Instead of deleting the selection, you can right click and change things with it, move it, copy it and more.
It still does not affect the objects, still floating.
On the other hand, you dan do a lot of things with selected objects, that does not affect the canvas.
There are quite a lot of examples and explanations to the ribbons and the functions in the manuals.
Far to much to explain all the new functions here.
    Best

Thanks so much.  I can see I need to read the manual so I understand what's going on.  I'll do that and then come back with the question if I still don't understand.

P.S.  I do have another minor question - I start a new thread.
