Add a Better Scaling Mode

When you rescale a desktop window image to a smaller size, none of the resize modes produce a great result, especially with text in the image. Even with HQ Bicubic the text in the window nearly always looks blurred or soft.

I've had a look at freeware tools like Irfanview, Faststone Image Viewer and XnView, and their Lanczos resize method produces far better results when reducing the image size, especially so when text is involved.

Is there any chance the Lanczos resize method could be added to the scale modes in future? It does seem overall far better than any of the current modes in Hypersnap when capturing and down scaling a desktop window.

Thank you for telling me about this algorithm. I'll look around to see if I can easily implement it or find some code that I could reuse.

Thank you, that's good news, I believe it's also in GIMP as well but called Sinc which is apparently another name Lanczos goes by. As quite a lot of freeware/open source apps use it, I would assume there could be plenty of code out there to look at...

I added now a whole bunch of scaling algorithms to HyperSnap 8, check an unofficial build 8.04 from:

    http://www.hyperionics.com/downloads/beta/HS8Setup.exe (64-bit)
    http://www.hyperionics.com/downloads/beta/HS8Setup32.exe (32-bit)

Try some or all of the options under Image ribbon tab - Scale, as you change the selection of algorithm to the new ones just added, there is also an additional "Filter scale" parameter that you can change from the default 1 to something else...
However, I spent at least 3 days testing all of them, and frankly don't see the new ones, including several "lanchos" choices, to be much better than the ones I already had... Let me know how this works for you.
