Text-to-Speech Engines for Android

Several vendors provide Text-to-Speech (TTS) engines for Android system, and each may support different languages, with different voice qualities. Below is the list of engine names, and links that we know of at the time of this writing (Feb. 2019). Please to visit their pages to find out what languages they support, prices etc.

• Google TTS
  Install first, if not present on your device.
  Free, now pre-installed on most devices or available for download from Google Play. Medium quality, unless using network speech generation.
• RHVoice
  Free of charge engine and voices. Currently supported languages (there will be more in the future): English (US), Esperanto, Georgian, Kyrgyz, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian, Tatar and Ukrainian. The best quality voices in RHVoice are in Russian.
• Vocalizer TTS
  Good quality voices, free app, voices for purchase, but offers a one week free trial of availabel voices. Currently @Voice app author's favorite.
• Acapela
  Free app, voices for purchase. Medium quality.
• CereProc TTS
  Good quality voices available from Google Play.
• eSpeak Free
  Very bad, "robotic" voice, but can speak very fast if you learn to understand it. Over 40 languages.
• Hear2Read
  Provides free Indic TTS voices (Kannada, Telugu, Punjabi, Tamil, Gujarati, Marathi, Sanskrit, maybe more in the future). Good quality.
• SpeechLab (Bulgarian language only, for purchase) (not available in Huawei App Gallery)
  SpeechLab 2.0 is a high quality Bulgarian Text-to-Speech engine developed by the Bulgarian Association for Computational Linguistics.
• AlfaNum TTS
  Offers great Serbian, Croatian and Montenegrin voices
• Aharon Hebrew TTS
  Free demo Hebrew TTS voice, actual product for purchase.
• Samsung TTS
  Comes only pre-installed with Samsung devices. Medium to good quality.
• IVONA
  No longer available in Android app stores. Amazon bought Ivona company and removed it from Google Play store.
  Was free while in beta tests. Excellent quality.
• Pico TTS Engine by SVOX
  Free, comes only with some Android versions, e.g. CyanogenMod, or search WWW. Medium quality.
